Weather

Phuket has a tropical monsoon climate, and is warm all year long averaging temperatures of around 29C (88F). The climate is hot and humid throughout the year.

The high season is generally considered to be from November to May. During the summer monsoon season, mornings and afternoons are still sunny and clear, but it tends to rain in the evenings and water clarity goes down. Locals consider May to October the "cool" season, and the weather is quite tolerable, much more so than in the tourism centers around the Gulf coast. It's comparable to Florida's summer weather in temperature and intensity of rain storms: 25-33 deg C, flying clouds, short and thunderous rainfalls in the afternoons and evenings. Surfing is possible off the western beaches.

Phuket Rain Chart (mm.per month)

The rainy, or monsoon season is from September until October.  During this time it is wet and very hot.  Unless rain is not a factor for enjoying a vacation, it is not advised to visit during these two months.  The hottest time of the year is from the beginning of April through the end of May.  Visiting Phuket during the monsoon season is not unpleasant because most days are rain-free except for showers in the afternoon. Phuket averages 2540 mm (or about 100 inches) of rain each year
